Puppies: day 6

All puppies appear to be thriving today! They have me so nervous!

There are seven puppies- 5 boys and two girls. They each look different enough that we can tell them apart.
Mama (Beauty) was at the PAWS shelter and was thought to be previously spayed. During her secret pregnancy, she had all of her vaccines, kennel cough, and was only fed a normal amount of food. She suprised the shelter when she gave birth on Sunday to ten puppies, seven of which are still alive.

We weren't the ideal foster home (Beauty hates cats) but no one else stepped up, so Dan brought her home Tuesday. We've built a warm puppy nest for them and I've learned so much about raising puppies! Our biggest challenge so far has been convincing them to drink from a bottle (in addition to mama milk). Some are still resistant, but we're making progress.

Raising puppies is very stressful and scary. I don't understand why anyone does it in an attempt to make a profit! It is also much harder so far than Little Mama and her week old kittens. But we're not at a week yet, so maybe it will get easier for a little bit.

Here are some pictures from Tuesday. I'll take more when I feel less overwhelmed (possibly today!):

Puppies have huge wide tongues. It's adorable. They're also prone to freaking out, often with good reason (fell out of the bed, picked up and scared):
